The First Coaching Meeting Worksheet

A first meeting is not a pitch. It is a coaching session with an exit. Use this page to prepare the six blocks, then run the conversation without hiding behind a script.

1. The frame · 3 minutes

Remove the performance. Tell the prospect what the meeting is for and that either outcome is acceptable.

2. Their world · 15 minutes

Ask what has them looking for a coach now. Listen until you get the yes that means your understanding is accurate.

Opening question: What is going on that has you looking for a coach right now?

3. The want, defined · 10 minutes

Turn the vague want into an arrival state a stranger could check six months from now.

If this worked, what would be different six months from now?

4. The honest mirror · 5 minutes

Reflect only what you actually heard. No invented insight. No performance.

What I heard underneath the story:

5. The proposal · 5 minutes

Only propose if the honest answer is yes. Write one recommendation: focus, cadence, duration, price, and evidence it is working.

6. The close · 5 minutes

Ask in one sentence. Then stop talking.

Would you like to start?

If the answer is no, close the loop cleanly. Give the honest next step. Do not manufacture an objection battle.

After the meeting

The structure is simple. The reps make it yours. Read the full essay: The First Meeting with a Prospective Client.
